    ADPAC's SVCommands™:

SVCommands does it all!  That's all there is to it.

SVCommands is ADPAC's flagship product.  It's at the heart of every product and service we offer.  It runs in the MVS environment, and is under your complete control.  Once you start using it, you'll begin to understand it's many uses, some of which are listed below.

For System Maintenance & Development:
  • Perform impact analysis, producing a detailed report on every line of code affected by a change.
  • Extract structure, data usage, and narrative descriptions from your current system--vital to any re-engineering effort.
  • Correlate the PSBs and DBDs in your IMS database to programs and I/O areas.
  • Find and substitute character strings, as well as data names.
  • Analyze and report on CICS tables and related CICS source code.
  • Prepares audit reports showing the before and after states of system changes.
  • Evaluate the maintainability of your application software.

For Operations:
  • Create up-to-date run books from information embedded in JCL and Proc libraries.
  • Produce charts and diagrams as part of your operations documentation.
  • Regenerate your on-line documentation on demand--it takes only minutes.
  • Print your documentation, or store it on-line.
  • Establish corporate wide standards for documentation.

For Data Administration:
  • Clean up your data by performing data name rationalization, removing the often 20-fold redundancy of homonyms and aliases.
  • Keep up with constant change by automating the loading of data dictionaries.
  • Automatically substitute valid names for redundant or inconsistent misnomers.
  • Check your substitutions to verify that your programs run the same as before they were changed.
  • Create diagrams of each IMS job showing DBD seqment relationships.

For Quality Assurance:
  • Automatically rate the maintainability of any program or system.
  • Monitor programming and naming standards continuously and automatically.
  • Identify obsolete programs, JCL, and data set in your system.
  • Automatically document the functions your systems currently perform.
  • Determine data usage of your system.
  • Improve the quality of older systems and maintain the quality of upgraded systems.
  • Create audit trails of your system changes.

Here is a list of some of the individual functions within SVCommands, along with an explanation and example of the output of each function.

ATTRIBUTES Extract the attributes of data elements found in programs and/or COPY members.
CALL Locate CALL statements found in application programs.
CICS Report of CICS instructions.
COPY Locate COPY statements found in application programs.
DIRECTORY Process any PDS directory.
DISPLAY Print the source code or JCL library member(s) in 80/80 record format.
DNAMES (Data Names) Locate data names found in application programs and COPY members.
DSNAMES (Data Set Names) Locate data set names found in the JCL libraries.
DTRANSFER (Data Transfers) Group together all data names related by data transfer (MOVE) instructions.
IDENT Create a list of program ident names and their source library member names.
INCLUDE Locate all INCLUDE statements found in application programs and COPY members.
INITIAL (PL/1) and VALUE (COBOL) Initial character values, enclosed in quotes and entered in the VALUE clause of the COBOL data definitions, or on PL/I DECLARE record structure statements, will be displayed.
INVENTORY Report on library size by language.
IODIAGRAM Print I/O job step diagram from JCL library.
JOB Report of certain JCL data found in members of the Job Control library and related Procedure libraries.
LIST Process and print any one of the special lists prepared by SVCMDS.
LITERAL Print the Cross Reference Report of all literal values found in the PROCEDURE division of the selected member(s) of the source library.
LOAD Processes the specified load libraries, and reports the program LOAD names and other information.
MACRO The MACRO function creates the PM@LMAC list by examining one or more Assembler language programs.
MEMBER Print a report of the selected member names found in the source library.
NARRATIVE Prints a report of program narratives.  The narratives are the comment records (or remarks) found at the beginning of the programs.
OUTLIB Processes source code and copies it into the OUTLIB.
PARM The PARM function processes a DNLIST prepared by the DNAMES function that used the USING (or PARM) option.
PROCEDURE The output of this function is similar to that produced by the JOB function, but without the corresponding JOB information (JOB member name, JOBNAME, and JOBSTEP.)
RECORD Print the Record Layout Report of the DATA division, or selected portions of it.
REFORMAT Reformat a COBOL program (or COBOL copy member.)
ROUTINES Print the report showing where all Routines are to be found in the selected member(s) of the source library.
SCAN Print the Cross Reference Report of where the specified 'strings' are found in the selected member(s) of the source library.
SCREEN Print a report displaying the screen image based upon the information contained in an Assembler language DFHMSD MACRO used by the CICS or DFLD IMS/DC MACRO processor.
STRUCTURE (Chart) View a program's Structure in flow-chart form.
STRUCTURE (Profile) View a program's Structure in a 'profile' form.
SYLLABLE Processes a DNLIST, WILIST, or ISLIST and reports on the uses of all 'syllables' found in a list of data names.
VALUE (COBOL) and INITIAL (PL/1) Initial character values, enclosed in quotes and entered in the VALUE clause of the COBOL data definitions, or on PL/I DECLARE record structure statements, will be displayed.
WORD Print the Cross Reference Report of where all words are found in the selected member(s) of the source library.

After all that, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us for more information.
